About Hannah Venese
I'm Hannah! The face and heart behind the art!
I’ve always had a passion to create. Good, bad, stunning, weird, or ugly— I would make it. Growing up, people told me art was my “gift and calling,” and honestly, I still agree. I don’t remember the first time I picked up a crayon; all I know is that I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember.
Artists like Van Gogh, Kahlo, O’Keeffe, and Eric Carle shaped my earliest sense of wonder. Their work still fuels my devotion to making things that feel alive. Life can be hard, dark, and full of pain, but I strive to turn my own hardships into art that feels like it came from the imagination of a child — bright, curious, and unafraid.
Growing up, I never felt like I fit in (and honestly, I still feel that way sometimes). But I did know that I loved being weird. I LOVE being weird, odd, and strange. That energy is part of my foundation.
My style is rooted in mixed media because I don’t like limiting myself to one medium — that’s way too restrictive for me. I build pieces through layers: paint, pencil, marker, texture, textile, whatever I feel the piece calls for. As a primarily self‑taught artist, I’m always learning, expanding, and evolving.
At the heart of everything I create is a drive to capture the splendors of emotion — connection, nostalgia, and the beauty tucked inside the mundane moments of everyday life. When I’m not creating, I’m working as a nanny, exploring nature, or getting lost in literature, all of which feed the stories behind my work.
“If you a hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
Why Creativity Cult ?
Creativity Cult is built on my devotion to creating a space where people can be weird, be young, and be fully themselves. I’ve always loved cults, maybe even joined one… or two — but what I’m drawn to isn’t the danger. It’s the devotion and community (and of course the secrets and mysteries, duh).
The word cult has two definitions:
a coercive, insular group
great devotion to a person, idea, object, or movement
I claim the second. My devotion is to the people who feel deeply, create instinctively, and crave connections that embrace their weirdness without question.
This space captures the feeling of finding your circle, the people who deeply understand you. The like‑minded, gently obsessive energy that rises when creative souls gather around a shared love of making things. “Cult” becomes a playful nod to that intensity, but here the devotion is soft and liberating: the freedom to be fully yourself, to create from your own spark, and to belong without shrinking or shaping yourself into something smaller.
Creativity Cult is meant to feel like home — for you and for me. A place where uniqueness is celebrated, where creativity is treated as a living, breathing connection, and where anyone can show up exactly as they are and feel welcomed in a community built on love, expression, and the belief that everyone deserves a happy story, broken or not.
